Ceramic works are often mixed with glass for both practicality and design. The glass can help in practical ways like forming a glass bottom to a ceramic piece for sturdiness. When decorating a ceramic with glass, one will discover a unique effect after the object is glazed. This results in light bouncing off of the glass. Stained glass is the most common glasswork that is combined with ceramic, as the multitude of colors enhances the beauty of the ceramic. This is a really cool way for one to give a ceramic the appearance of precious stones being incorporated. One may think that a glass kiln is needed to achieve this type of design but that’s not true. Ceramic kilns are perfectly fine to use when making ceramics that incorporates glassworks. The main concern, is the ceramic kiln having enough space for the craft as glass tends to expand when heated.
